Genesis 40: The Prisoners’ Dream
After these things. This prison experience teaches us that both the righteous and the evil suffer in this world.
What distinguishes one from the other is their trust in the Almighty. In prison, Joseph held on to his faith, even after all he suffered.
There he stood out to such a degree that he was put in charge of all the prisoners (39.22). As a stranger in that land and seemingly helpless, he was special because he remained faithful in the face of the worst injustice.
And so, God gave him the wisdom to interpret dreams so that he would gain a reputation, even with Pharaoh. The Most High does not create the battles we go through, but He permits them for our own good. What is meant for our own destruction, He transforms into a stairway to our success (Rom. 8.28).
