Obadiah prophesied God’s wrath on Edom. Edom was arrogant and considered itself better thatn the other nations because its habitation was high, in the clefts of the rock.

The judgement of God was attributed to the Edomites because of a conflict, which was initiated by the twins Esau and Jacob many years earlier (Gen. 273 36-41).

From Jacob, the nation of Israel was born, and from Esau, Edo, was born. Although time had passed, and the discords had seemingly been appeased, the descendants of Esau cultivated enmity and hatred against Jacob’s descendants. In doing so, they were hostile to Israel, stirred up conflict, and rejoiced in the suffering of their sister nation.
