What are these feeble Jews doing? The enemies were contemptuos and belittled the work that the Jews were doing. Their opponents not only underestimated them but their resources and building methods as well. Could they restore broken and burned stones?

Sanballat’s sarcastic skepticism has bee heard from centuries through the mouths of people used by he evil one to mock and humiliate those who belong to God.

Like the devil’s shooting arrows, their words tell those with destroyed lives that they will never be able to get back up.

Satan finds pleasure in seeing people grow weak and discourage until they give up. Yet whenever supernatural faith in the Almighty exists, there is confidence and boldness to take action! By their faith, He lifts the downtrodden, even if they are nobodies, by giving them places of honor among the princes of this world. (1 Sam. 2.8).
