Luke 6: Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath
To do good or to do evil? The religious leaders had changed the Divine Commandment to keep the Sabbath into a great burdened for the people. What was meant to bring people closer to one another and to God had become a source of division.
This happened because the strict rules imposed by the teachers of the Law did not allow any activity on that day, including helping those who were suffering. This invalidated the Divine Commandment to love their neighbor.
That is what the Lord Jesus asked, “is it lawful of the Sabbath to do good or to do evil?
The Messiah appealed to their intelligence to show that believing also means thinking and pondering. After all, what was the point of showing holiness if the purpose of honoring God had een pushed aside for obedience to a man-made doctrines?
