Against Ammon. The Ammonites and the Moabites were born out of an incestuous relationship of Lot, Abraham’s nephew, with his daughters (Gen. 1930-38).

These people were hostile to the Israelites.

The Ammonites, for example, took advantage of the weakening of Israel before the Babylonians to take possession of the region of Gad.

And so, the lands that belonged to the people of God were passed on “as an inheritance” to Milcom, or Molech, the chief god of the Ammonites (1 Kings 11.5). However, as much as the Israelites and apparently there was no hope for the holy nation, the Most High promised to intervene and return to Israel all that had been taken from them.
