The sign of two baskets of figs. Nebuchadnezzar had caused death and destruction in the invasion of Jerusalem.

Many Jews were taken captive to Babylon in its first deportation.

Even so, Jeremiah received a vision from the Most High, showing the though Judgement was upon them, all was not lost.

The prophet was encouraged to know that some would be spared from among the nation.

In the vision were two baskets of figs. The first contained sweet and good fruit, and the second, bitter fruit, unfit for consumption. this meant that while a portion of the people would suffer in exile – yet still be preserved for the nation to continue on – others would die.
