Isaiah 39: The Babylonian Envoys
The king of Babylon tried entering into a political alliance with Judah, for he wanted to free himself from the dominion of Assyria.
He sent letters and a present to King Hezekiah, who became so happy that he showed all the riches of his kingdom to the Babylonians.
Through this action, Hezekiah showed his unbelief in the Lord of Hosts, Who protected Judah, and also his arrogance, for he wanted to impress them and show to them how important it was to have the Babylonian king an an ally. However, this would end up turning against Hezekiah’s kingdom, seeing that he did not fully trust in God. Note how malevolent arrogance is! Besides robbing one’s common sense, it also obscures human understanding
