Isaiah 22: Proclamation Against Jerusalem
Look away from me, and I will weep bitterly. Isaiah asks no one to look at him at this time, for his soul is distraught with grief and sorrow for the destruction that would come to Jerusalem in the future. He feels the pain of God to see that the people will be crushed.
Like the prophet, the true servants of God bring that cry of pain within themselves.
In other words, they feel that same sadness as the lord, when they see people neglecting spiritual life and, consequently, reaping suffering. How can one not feel the distress of the people? How can the servant of God watch people’s lives being ruined and not empathize? Only false servants live selfishly, focused on their own well-being.
