Deuteronomy 19: Three Cities of Refuge

The cities of refuge were places of protection that sheltered people who had accidentally caused someone’s death. There they were protected from any possible attacks by the victims’s relatives seeking revenge. It is important to not that revenge is never the best way. It does not heal the pain of injustice nor does it repair any losses.

This way, to distinguish voluntary actions from the uncontrolled ones, the Most High gave an opportunity of defense and fair judgement through His Laws.

These are the moral values of constitutions and penal codes of many countries up until today.

We can understand that the Lord Jesus is the City of refuge for those who seek forgiveness for their mistakes. A person who sins harms themselves with their transgressions. However, if they seek God, they will find protection, strength and an opportunity to start a fresh.
