The mission of the seventy disciples. the number seventy in the Scriptures is quite significant –

seventy was the number of people in the family of Jacob when he entered Egypt (Gen. 46.27);

seventy was the numer of elders chosen to help Moses in the wilderness (Num. 11.16);

seventy was the number of years of captivity in Babylon (Jer. 25.11);

seventy was the number of members in the Jewish Sanhedrin;

in the year seventy of the Christian era Jerusalem was destroyed by the Roman Empire;

and seventy was the number of disciples chosen by the Lord Jesus to preach his Word.
