Joshua 24: The Covenant at Shechem
Freedom. God suffers when He is rejected. Even so, He does not force anyone to follow Him, but allows everyone to freely make their own choice. Likewise, Joshua could not force the Israelites to remain faithful to the Most High.
When he said,” But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” he meant that even if the entire nation chose another path, he and his family would be loyal to God.
This is a simple but continuous choice, meaning that we are confronted daily with situations that demand a decision to either be faithful to God or not.
Those who remain in a covenant with Him are able to influence others to walk in the same faith.
