Joshua 17: The Other Half-Tribe of Manesseh (West)
The daughters of Zelophehad would not accept being left out of their inheritance, much less for their father’s name to be removed from the list of the trives of Iarael while the land was being divided.
By law, only male children could receive an inheritance. Zelophehad had died with no sons, which meant his portion could not be handed down to his daughters. But his daughters settled the matter with Moses (Num. 27.2).
God considered their request to be fair and granted them the right to take their father’s land.
Today, many try to impose their ideas on society to revolutionize it. But in the past, only these five women of fiath and courage were able to change the Mosaic Law and traditions of their people.
Because of their actions, not only were they favored, but other families in their situation were as well (Num. 27.8). A woman’s value and strength are in her faith and in her righteous behavior.
