Jeremiah 37: Zedekiah’s Vain Hope
Pray now for us. Zedekiah was the new king who Nebuchadnezzar placed to rule over Judah (2 king 24.17-18). He did not obey the Most High, nor was he willing to repent, but when a new Babylonian invasion against Jerusalem was pronounced, he asked Jeremiah for prayers.
It is a privilege and also a duty to be able to help others in their times of distress. However, supplications alone cannot solve problems. the distressed person also needs to be willing to listen to Gods rebukes and not desire His blissing alone.
Many behave like Zedekiah, when they go to church only with the intention of obtaining blessings, but do not want to give up their sinful life.
