Jeremiah 28: Hananiah’s Falsehood and Doom
In the same year. The opposition against Jeremiah continued in the same year 593 BC, but now through a man named Hananiah, who was a self-proclaimed prophet.
He spoke boldly, foreseeing the fall of Babylon before Judah.
He also set dates for when the nation would be restored, and for the return of the remnant and those in captivity, even through God had said the exact opposite.
According to the predictions for Hananiah, everything would be back as it was before within two years (v. 3). But the prophecies spoken by Jeremiah in the Name of God, stated that the Babylonian captivity would last for seventy years, and only after that could the nation be restored again (25.12).
