Jeremiah 16: Jeremiah’s Lifestyle and Message
The sacrifice of Jeremiah. The prophets knew that serving the Most High would require daily sacrifices, each had to sacrifice their will in some way. In Jeremiah’s case, God made a specific request: that he should not marry or have any children.
Getting married and establishing a family are very important for a Jew.
With this restriction, the Lord spared the prophet from the afflictions that would follow, because a great calamity was approaching. If he were a father and husband, he would be subject to more pain. Moreover, the proclamation of God’s Message was urgent and demanded one hundred percent of his time. Jeremiah could not morn for the dead or take part in feasts. The person who desires to serve the Lord Jesus must know that He only uses those who are willing to sacrifice themselves for His cause (Matt. 8.18-22).
