Deuteronomy 15: Debts Canceled Every Seven Years
The year of remission, also known as the sabbatical year, happened every seven years.
The neediest were the ones who benefited from it the most.
For example, the debts of those who could not pay were forgiven and slaves were set free (vv. 12-18).
Moreover, the land rested, for the Israelites did not plant or harvest for that year (Lev. 25. 1-7). Humanly speaking, this period had every reason to be the worst for the nation. Imagine a country that did not plant for a whole year!
But God observed the obedience and trust of the people concerning HIs rule. There fore, those who respected it had plenty.
Only those who are gifted with pure faith are able to submit to the Most High to the point of following directions that humanly speaking sound crazy.
