Daniel was almost ninety years old and was among the Jews that had already returned to Jerusalem for the reconstruction of the Temple.

Many Remained in Babylon because they were old or because they did not want to go back.

The prophecy of Jeremiah had been fulfilled, but those who returned to Jerusalem faced great difficulties, deprivations and hard resistance to rebuild the temple. For three weeks, Daniel prayed, fasted and humbled himself before the Most High God, who sent His angel with the answer to his prayer (Luke 18.7-8).
