The Sadducees formed a kind of Jewish religious party, basically composed of the wealthy aristocrats of Israel. They disagreed with he Pharisees concerning the interpretation of the Law.

While the Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection and the existence of angels and demons, the Pharisees believed in the future resurrection of the dead, yet they were hypocrites and were often rebuked by the Savior.

While they differed in some respects, these two groups opposed the Word preached by the Lord Jesus and worked together to crucify Him. (Further details of the Pharisees and Sadducees are in the notes on Mark 7.3a and 12.18)
