1 Corinthians 14: Prophecy and Tongues
In the spirity he speaks mysteries. All gifts must be used for the good and growht of the Church, but the gift of tongues is the only one that benefits only the person who speaks
Therefore, we should exercise this gift when we pray, in a descreet manner, and not in a way that will draw attention.
This instruction was given to the member of the church in Corinth because they valued this fift more thatn the others.
Besides, they used it in an inconvenient and disorderly manner. It was clear that they wanted to show off, and not edify themselves (v.4).
The Scriptures say that speaking in tongues publicluy is useless if there is no one who can interprt them, for thos ewho hear will not benefit from it (v.5).
There must be spiritual discernment, so that we do not pray, fast and meditate on the Word in a way that will draw attention to ourselves; we must do these things to receive God’s Approval.
