Romans 6: Dead to Sin, Alive to God
Shall we continue in sin? Paul asked this question because some people in the church of Rome still did not understand what justification by faith really meant.
They believed that if they had faith in the Lord Jesus, they could do what ever they wanted, for God would be merciful and gracious to them. Ith was as if granted them the right to live in sin.
They probably misinterpreted Paul’s words (5.20), so while some opted for religious legalism, others gave themselves up to debauchery. In this way, those who remained in sin, despite having knowledge of the Truth, could not be justified by faith.
Paul countered this distortion of the true concept of grace, so that both Romans and Jews understood that the abundant grace of God, which brings justification by faith, requires the abandonment of sin.
