Timothy was the son of a Jewish mother and a Greek father. Everything seems to indicate that he and his mother converted to Christianity on Paul’s first visit to Lystra.

Timothy was one of Paul’s most important assistants. His faith and exemplary character caused the apostle to choose him to continue on with him on his missionary visits.

A person’s good testimony provides opportunities to be greatly used in the Work of God. Had Timothy’s acquaintances been unable to testify about him well, Paul would surely have chosen someone else in his place.
