Dropsy was an incurable disease, charactirzed by swelling in the body due to excessive fluid retention, in the house where the Lord Jesus was, other thatn the Pharisess, there was a man with dropsy.

The difference between them was that wile the man with dropsy was swollen physically, the Pharisees were spiritually inflated by pride(v.7). Seeing that everyone was sick in some way, the Lord Jesus decided to cure the body of the man with dropsy first.

He then taught others that through humility they could restore their own souls. Whenever a person delights in praises and hone, he accumulates pride and presumption within himself. Therefore, he loses what is vital for the salvation of his soul: a humble heart.
