Mark 12: The Parable of the Wicked Vinedressers
The Parable of the Vinedressers is a clear reference to the parable of the disappointing vineyard (Isa. 5.1-7). The owner of the vineyard represented God and the vineyard represented God and the vineyard symbolized Israel, His people. The servants of the Owner represented the several prophets that the Most High had sent.
The servants were in charge of receiving som of the fruit of the vineyard from the vinedressers, but because the vinedressers were wicked and had produced nothing, they mistreated and even killed the servants – this happened to Isaiah and John the Baptist. Because they knew history, the priest and scribes certaintly understood the allegories used by the Lord Jesus, Who attributed to them the role of wicked vinedressers and the guilt for the nation’s spiritual sterility.
Seeing that His servants had been outraged, the Almighty sent His beloved Son, believing that they would repect Him (vv. 6-8). However, they also rejected God’s offering. The Lord Jesus was rejected and despised the last chance they had. This parable brought prophetic revelations about the Messiah’s rejection, death, and resurrection.
