Jeremiah 41: Insurrection Against Gadaliah
With the sword. Gadaliah generously shared his table with Ishmael and with the men who came with him. In Judaic culture, eating together was a symbol of trust friendship, and hospitality. Nevertheless, the murder was committed during a meal and that is how great Ishmael’s evil was. This proves that your worst enemy is not the one who declares himself, but the one who pretends to be your friend. Whoever has been betrayed by someone who was well trusted fully understands what this means.
Because of envy and greed for power, many people disguise themselves as friends only to gain trust and then later on they strike a blow.
This is why it is important to have spiritual discernment, which is the ability to carefully distinguish between truth and lies, the righteous from the wicked, and light from darkness. It is clear that conclusions should not be drawn based on slander, false impressions, or assumptions, or else it will lead to reckless judgment. something that is condemned by the Most High (Matt. 7.1-2).
