Jeremiah 20: The Word of God to Pashhur
Pashhur was a common name at the time and also a title indicating a high position inside of the Temple. The son of the priest immer had this title, which meant that he was a descendant of an important lineage of priests from the time of David (1 Chron. 24.14).
Pashhur used his authority to order the guards of the silence to prophet by condemning him hastily, for he was denouncing the sins of the religious leaders.
Jeremiah was arrested, beaten, and put on the stocks to be tortured, but he remained steadfast.
So not even all the suffering, injustices, and mistreatments were able to make the prophet’s faithfulness and zeal diminish.
On the contrary, he was courageous to raise his voice and say that everyone was on their way to destruction. As for the unrighteous Pashhur, he attracted the wrath of God. In addition to going into captivity, he, his family, and friends were violently killed (v.4).
