Jeremiah 12: Jeremiah’s Question
Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Jeremiah’s question resembles questions that other servants of God have asked about the happiness and security of the wicked. Job, David, Asaph, Habakkuk, among others, took their eyes off of the Lord for a few moments and began to notice the seeming prosperity of evil people (Job 21.7, Ps 37; 73; Hab. 1.4.13).
Jeremiah asked the Almighty what the consequences would be for those who not only despised His Law but plotted the death of the righteous.
Giving room to this type of contentious thinking not only disturbs our souls, but deeply weakens faith, Asaph, for example, said that his feet almost strayed from the Truth when he thought this way (Ps. 73.2). The righteous must believe in the incorruptibility of God’s righteousness. That is how they are able to understand for their actions. They should stay focused on their spiritual lives and on the eternal rewards that result from faithfulness and obedience to the Most High
