Isaiah 42: The Servant of the Lord
Behold! My servant. For being faithful the people of Israel had been called “My servant.” King David was too, but here the Text refers to the Messiah (Matt. 12.18-21). A servant is a person who recognizes the authority of his or her master, obeys and respects him genuinely.
This was how the Lord Jesus behaved toward the Father.
The be an approved Servant, the Lord had to be anointed, instructed and empowered by the Lord had to be anointed, instructed and empowered by the Holy Spirit before beginning His public ministry ( Matt.. 3.17). Today, “Behold! My servant: can also apply to those who are born of the Spirit because they practice righteousness and are faithful witness of the Most High.
