1 Corinthians 6: Do Not Sue the Brethren
Lawsuits. The letter to the Corinthians contained a series of rebukes. Paul had already condemned divisions, pride, and immorality. Now he condemns lawsuits that is, disagreements among church members.
Notice that all these problems originated from the negligence of the spiritual life. At that time, the Corinthian Christians went to court and, before unbelieving judges, exposed conflicts that were, for the most part, misunderstanding that could be resolved amongst the church members themselves.
They did not see that such matters could easily be resolved if they were submitted to the spiritual authorities. However since the Word of God was no longer the ultimate authority over their lives, Its Advice was no longer enough.
In so doing, the Corinthians not only exposed the Gospel and the Church, but also scandalized those who were weak in their faith. The fact that the apostle rebuked the Corinthians who, because of any disagreement, went to the courts, does not mean that he defended injustice between them.
On the contrary, he sometimes appealed the the judicial system to plead necessary cased ( Acts 16.37-39; 25.10-12). Anyone who deceive his neighbor, threatens his life, or impairs his well-being must be tried in this courts for his or her actions.
