1 Corinthians 10: Old Testament Examples

Do not be unaware.

Everthing that is recorded in the Scriptures is not mere infromation of past eventes.

They were written to teach and warn us about the seriousness of our spiritual life. Paul remembers the history of the Hebrews who received provision and protection from the Most High in the Exodus (Exod. 13.21-22).

This generation of Israel received the most miracles, but it was also the most unbelieving.

The desert was meant to be a quick passage to the Promised Land and it became their hime for forty years. It also turned into a large cemetery of people who were not firm in their faith.

From the millions of people freed from slaver in Egypt, only two from that generation believed and entered Cannan (num. 1430-32).

The warning that was given to the Corinthians also serves for us. Receiving a clear sign of God’s favor does not mean that there will be a f final approval, that is, Salvation of the soul. On the contrary, although the children of Israel experienced many blessings they acted with rebellion, disbelief, and ungratefulness; therefore, God was not pleased with them (v.5)
