Deuteronomy 26: Offering of First-fruits and Tithes
The first commitment in the Promised Land was to offer the firstfruits as sign of gratitude and to acknowledge the Majesty of God.
It was not the monetary value that was in question, but the consideration, which showed who the offering giver considered as his Lord.
By presenting his First-fruits to God, man recognizes the Sovereignty of the Most High in his life.
However, if he retains them, he declares himself his own lord and indirectly becomes subject to the dominion of the devourer (Mal. 2.11). Abraham used to honor the Eternal One with his first-fruits.
This means that the concept of the tithe existed since the calling of the patriarch of Israel (Gen. 14.20).
